Even though we tend to question today the overarching impact of individual personalities on the course of history, there is no doubt that certain figures indeed exerted a huge influence on society at their time. The Protestant Reformation, for instance, was primarily determined by Dr. Martin Luther (1483–1546), and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968) was the main leader of the Civic Rights Movement in the USA. The reformer Luther, of course, was surrounded by a cohort of like-minded and highly intelligent people assisting him in many different ways, but he was the driving force, the major author of the relevant texts, and the critical person to set into motion the creation of the new Protestant Church.
