Einar Már Guðmundsson is an Icelandic novelist and poet. He was born in 1954 in Reykjavík and brought up in the city. He studied literature and history at the University of Iceland and moved to Denmark in 1979 to study literature at the University of Copenhagen. In 1980 and 1981 he published three books of poetry,

Er nokkur í kórónafötum hér inni?

[Is anyone wearing a crown suit in here?],

Sendisveinninn er einmana

[The Messenger Is Lonely]

and

Róbinson Krúsó snýr aftur

[Robinson Crusoe Returns]. In these collections Einar incorporates the pop culture of young people and urban life, which had not featured as themes of Icelandic poetry until then. His poetry thus reached a wider audience than most poetry of the time.
