is an Icelandic short narrative preserved in a number of parchment manuscripts from the late Middle Ages: GKS 1005 fol. (also known as Flateyjarbók, c. 1387- 1395), AM 62 fol. (c. 1370-1450), AM 309 4to (also known as Bæjarbók í Flóa, c. 1498), and AM 54 fol. (dated around the end of the fourteenth century, but

has been added in a supplement from the sixteenth century). In these codices, the text is embedded in the

Óláfs saga Tryggvasonar en mesta

, the longest saga about the first missionary king of Norway. Ólafur Halldórsson (1963) has argued that its two oldest witnesses, GKS 1005 fol. and AM 62 fol., are closely related and likely copied from the same manuscript, maintaining that they preserve the D redaction of
