Hrólfs saga Gautrekssonar is one of the Icelandic legendary sagas [

fornaldarsögur

]. It is preserved in two different versions, shorter and longer. The shorter seems to be slightly older judging by both preservation and comparison of the two texts. The longer version is characterised by expansions throughout the saga. The main character of the saga, King Hrólfr, is the son of King Gautrekr, the main hero of Gautreks saga. These two sagas were evidently regarded a single entity by some as they are frequently preserved together in manuscripts under one title. Both sagas were the first medieval Icelandic texts to be printed, in an edition by Olaus Verelius in Uppsala, Sweden, in 1664.
