These texts provide an insight into Pasolini’s first steps as a public intellectual: from his early attempts at realism, accompanied by the rejection of cultured Italians, to the adoption of a vernacular stylistic mimesis.

The title refers to the mysterious character summoned in the poetic composition of the collection, “Profezia”. Several critics have attempted to identify this character and define his role as a representative figure of the whole volume. Ferdinando Giannessi regards the protagonist of “Profezia” as a new redeemer, similar to the Veltro envisioned by Dante at the beginning of The Divine Comedy. Pasquale Licciardello connects
