Fœreyinga saga

is an Old Norse prose narrative, presumably dating from the thirteenth century. The saga is nowhere independently preserved, but always as a part of the kings’ sagas of Óláfr Tryggvason (d. 1000) and Óláfr helgi (d. 1030). These are preserved in the manuscript

Flateyjarbók

(GKS 1005 fol.), where

Fœreyinga saga

is distributed throughout the text of

Óláfs saga Tryggvasonar

and

Óláfs saga helga

in chapters of various lengths. In addition

,

various parts of the saga are found in other manuscripts of the sagas of the two kings, such as AM 61 fol., AM 62 fol., AM 53 fol., AM 54 fol. and various manuscripts of

Óláfs saga helga

(among them copies of

Kringla

).

The oldest manuscripts of Fœreyinga saga date from the latter portion of the thirteenth century, but all the
