Where Nests the Water Hen) is a novel composed of three distinct, though complementary, stories. In
Œuvres complètes’(2009) introduction dedicated to Gabrielle Roy’s second novel, it is said that, although the stories are separated by different titles, they complete and explain one another. However, the interesting narration developed by the Franco-Manitoban author also depends on the succession of singular points of view: mother Tousignant’s (1. “Les vacances de Luzina”), a dismantled narrator’s (2. “L’école de la Petite Poule d’Eau”), and the priest Joseph-Marie’s (3. “Le capucin de Toutes-Aides”).
