Salman Rushdie’s thirteenth novel,
The Golden House, was published on September 5th, 2017. The plot starts with the arrival in New York City of an exiled family, comprising a father in his seventies, Nero Julius Golden, and his three grown up, motherless sons, Petronius, Apuleius and Dionysus (lofty Roman monickers meant to hide their past and hint at the glorious fate awaiting them). They are at first very secretive about their origins and identity, but are finally revealed to be Indians from Bombay/Mumbai, who left their city after the terrorist attacks of November 26, 2008, during which Nero’s wife was killed.
