The publisher was William Godwin, who ran the Juvenile Library with his second wife, Mary Jane, and whose diary entry for 30 December 1807 records “Old Daniel published”. The author was the exiled Irish aristocrat, Margaret King Moore, the Countess of Mount Cashell.
