The Revelation of Jesus Christ

(1679) fits far more obviously into the genre of prophecy than Wentworth’s more autobiographical publications

(1676) and

A Vindication

(1677). The text consists of twenty-seven revelations that occurred on specific dates between 1678 and 1679, many of them given in verse form. According to the account provided in the preamble: “

these Verses falling into the hand of one, that was once an Enemy to her, they so wrought upon her, that she resolved to have them Printed

” (A2r). Wentworth, after several days of prayer, agreed to this request: “

adding, that whoever did question the truth of what is here Printed, she would not be ashamed to own it, as being well assured, that she had received it from the Lord
