This book completes Wilson’s “Murder Trilogy”, which began with

The Encyclopedia of Murder

(London: Arthur Barker, 1961) and was followed by

A Casebook of Murder

(London: Leslie Frewin Publishers, 1969). The first was intended to be a basic reference book on the subject, the second a sociological study, and this volume a psychology of murder. It was published in the UK by Rupert Hart-Davis in October 1972. Although translated into French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese, it was not published in the United States until 2015 and then as an e-book only. An extract from Chapter 6 appeared in

(Birmingham, Alabama: privately printed, 1972).
