This book completes Wilson’s “Murder Trilogy”, which began with
The Encyclopedia of Murder(London: Arthur Barker, 1961) and was followed by
A Casebook of Murder(London: Leslie Frewin Publishers, 1969). The first was intended to be a basic reference book on the subject, the second a sociological study, and this volume a psychology of murder. It was published in the UK by Rupert Hart-Davis in October 1972. Although translated into French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese, it was not published in the United States until 2015 and then as an e-book only. An extract from Chapter 6 appeared in
HPL: A tribute to Howard Phillips Lovecraft(Birmingham, Alabama: privately printed, 1972).
Wilson wrote a 49-page Introduction to Order of Assassins which was not published with the book. It outlines
