Success. Three Years in the Life of a Province] was the first major German novel to be set in the early years of Adolf Hitler’s rise to power (1921-24) and to expose the nascent Nazi movement as at the same time threatening and laughable. The English translation by Willa and Edwin Muir was published in the same year by Martin Secker in London and, under the title
Success. A Novel, by Viking Press in New York. The novel has also been translated into at least sixteen other languages. Feuchtwanger later called it the first volume of the trilogy
