opened on 20th December 1918 during the third New York season of the Provincetown Players, and it was the second play Susan Glaspell and George Cram Cook wrote in collaboration. This one-act, even if not widely known today, was considered the big hit of the bill.
As they did in their first collaboration, Suppressed Desires, Glaspell and Cook chose here again the satirical form to engage the audience into a more serious topic: their critique of modernity. The play is set in a garden in Provincetown, the town where many New York bohemians used to spend their summer and where the Provincetown Players were born in the summer of 1915.
