Anglo-Saxon Chroniclerecords that in this year Alfred ‘occupied London’ and received the submission of all ‘
Angelcyn’ not under Danish rule. Alfred perhaps took control of London from his son-in-law Æthelred of Mercia rather than the Danes, uniting Wessex and Mercia for the first time.
