On 23 January 1973, an American/North Vietnamese cease-fire agreement was signed in Paris. The accord was reached after serious negotiations between National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger and North Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Duc Tho. The cease-fire was immediately preceded by the ‘Christmas bombings’, an 11-day targeted bombing campaign of Hanoi and certain other North Vietnamese cities which produced extensive collateral damage (i.e., civilian deaths).
