The United States strong arms the USSR into removing its nuclear missiles from Cuba. A Soviet missile build-up in Cuba was revealed to the American public on 22 October by President John F. Kennedy. He also revealed that he had ordered a Naval and air quarantine on shipments of offensive military equipment to the island. He and Soviet Premier Nikita Khruschev agreed on 28 October to end the crisis. On 2 November, Kennedy announced that Soviet missile bases in Cuba were being dismantled.
