is the journal of the Friends of the Nation society [Hið íslenska þjóðvinafélag] that was established in 1871 by the supporters of Jón Sigurðsson and today includes all sitting members of parliament [alþingi] in Iceland. The Þjóðvinafélag was originally seen as a political party, the first in Iceland, but after the death of Jón Sigurðsson in 1879, it essentially metamorphosed into a publishing society for
