Tardid (Doubt) is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet directed by the Armenian-Iranian filmmaker Varouzh Karim-Masihi. The film premiered at the International Fadjr Film Festival on February 6th, 2009 in Tehran, where it won the Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Tardid marked the return of Karim-Masihi after a 17-year absence from Iranian cinema, a lacuna that Azadeh Ganjeh attributes to the Supreme Supervisory Council of Cinema’s refusal to grant him a permit to direct in Iran during this time. The film’s score was composed by Ali Samadpour.
