Poet, short-story writer, and novelist, Michael Crummey is a challenging and distinctive voice among a generation of Newfoundland and Labrador writers radically resituating and reconsidering their province and its people, culture, and history. From the earliest days of his writing career, Crummey has been producing award-winning and award-nominated work. As an undergraduate in English at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Crummey won first place in the Gregory J. Power Poetry Competition in 1986. In 1994, Crummey won the inaugural Bronwen Wallace Award for Poetry, an award for writers under thirty-five years old whose work has been published in anthologies but has yet to appear in a single book.
