Canadian-born writer, essayist and literary critic, Nancy Huston is an award-winning author. An influential writer of her generation, she writes primarily in French and translates her works into English. Since she began writing in the 1980s, Huston has investigated expatriation and cultural belonging, the identity-forming process, language and reality, the body and the mind, motherhood and creation, history and humanity, women’s sexual explorations, and ultimately the search for meaning in our contemporary world.
Nancy Huston was born September 16, 1953, to Mary Louise (Kester) Engels and James Palmer Huston in Calgary, Alberta, the city in which she lived until age fifteen, when her family moved to New Hampshire, USA. She studied at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where she won a
