Samuel Rogers (1763-1855) was a bestselling poet during the nineteenth century, regarded as a bastion of London literary society by many of his acquaintances. Rogers continued to work as a bank manager whilst publishing and writing. His political and literary connections and extensive antiquary and art collections made him a much sought out character in London cultural life. However, he was also known for his caustic wit and fickle loyalties. His literary legacy is tainted by a history of using his socially influential position to manipulate and abuse others.
