Celia Fiennes (1662–1741) is tagged in the

simply as “traveller”, and indeed her quiet existence is remembered today wholly on account of the descriptions she left of her journeys around England, mostly undertaken in the first half of her life. Recognition of their value has come slowly across the centuries. She embarked on them as the seventeenth century came to a close, and completed them at the start of the eighteenth. They were published for the first time late in the nineteenth, and properly edited only in the middle of the twentieth. Further editions have continued into the twenty-first, but they are all reprinted or derivative versions.
