The beatnik poet and bohemian Dagur Sigurðarson (sometimes known as Dagur Sigurðarson Thoroddsen or just Dagur) was born in Reykjavík on 6 August 1937 and died in Sweden on 19 February 1994. He was an Icelandic poet, translator, and visual artist, known for his bohemian lifestyle and revolutionary views that were highly provocative and often received more attention than his art. He is frequently referred to as an “enfant terrible” of Icelandic poetry.
Among Dagur’s ancestors were several well-known writers and poets, including Jón Thoroddsen (Iceland’s first novelist) and the þulur poet Theodóra Thoroddsen (Dagur’s grandmother).
