Ingibjörg Haraldsdóttir was born in Reykjavík on 21 October 1942 and died on 7 November 2016. After completing her secondary education, she moved to Moscow, where she pursued studies in film direction, earning her degree in 1969. Between 1970 and 1975, Ingibjörg worked as an assistant director at Teatro Estudio in Havana, Cuba. During her time abroad, both studying and working, she contributed articles and translations to Icelandic newspapers. In 1975, Ingibjörg returned to Iceland, where she worked for several years as a journalist and film critic for the newspaper
Þjóðviljinn. By 1981, roughly a decade after publishing her first poetry collection, she had transitioned to focus primarily on poetry and translation.
