Giuseppe Pederiali was an Italian writer whose novels mixed reality and fantasy, giving life to an Italian magical realism strongly rooted in the literary culture and landscape of the Po Valley. Pederiali gained considerable literary success during his lifetime, both nationally and internationally, with some of his work translated into English, French, Russian, and Japanese.
Pederiali was born on 16 July 1937 in Finale Emilia, a town in the lower Po Valley on the border between the provinces of Modena, Ferrara, and Bologna. At sixteen, having lost both his parents, he enrolled in the Italian Navy Petty Officer Academy (CEMM).
