Kristina Sandberg is one of the foremost contemporary Swedish authors. She has published six novels, including what is collectively called the Maj trilogy, a cookbook, and a memoir, along with short stories and many book reviews, and she has taught creative writing since 2001. Her work has been very influential in Sweden and beyond in part because she tells stories that were previously ignored or considered unimportant. In short, Sandberg makes visible the invisible and forgotten.

Sandberg was born in Sundsvall in northern Sweden in 1971. She lived with her parents and older sister until she was ten and her parents divorced, and her father no longer lived with them. Both parents were working-class, with her mother an assistant in a library and her father a salesman in a stainless steel
