With only a few female predecessors in 20th-century Slovak literature, Mila Haugová (b. 1942) is one of the first women poets universally accepted across the Slovak literary field. With two selections of her poetry,

Scent of the Unseen

(2003) and

Eternal Traffic

(2020), released in English translation by the established UK-based Arc Publications, she is also the most successful Slovak poet in terms of international publication. As of present, she has authored more than thirty books of poetry and memoirs and translated numerous selections from the poetry of (mainly) Anglophone and German-speaking authors, including Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton and Ingeborg Bachmann. She received the Vilenica International Literary Prize in 2020.
