Born on 5 December 1940 in Costa Rica, Quince Duncan Moodie is a third-generation Afro-Costa Rican author of Jamaican and Barbadian descent who grew up on the country’s Caribbean coast in the

town of Estrada, Limón province. Duncan moved to San José, the capital of Costa Rica, in 1956 and continued to live in the Central Valley of the country for his university studies, being awarded his BA and MA from the National University in Heredia. Settling in the province, he has penned numerous works of fiction and non-fiction, becoming one of the country’s most prolific authors and cultural figures, having published short stories, novels, essays, plays, and children’s literature.
