On 16 July 1906, the front page of the Paris newspaper Gil Blas featured an article entitled “La Vie Littéraire: Georges de Peyrebrune jugée par ses contemporains” (Georges de Peyrebrune Judged by Her Contemporaries). Signed by Jules Bois, the article included contributions from Henri Houssaye, Catulle Mendès, Octave Mirbeau, and Armand Silvestre as well as Frédéric Mistral. All paid tribute to the talents of their fellow author, the woman writer Georges de Peyrebrune. Yet one of them, her dear friend, the historian Joseph Reinach proved particularly clear-sighted and “prophetic” – to use Bois’s term – when he wrote: “I am sure that posterity . . . will restore everyone to his place
