Léopold Chauveau (1870-1940) is an author, illustrator, painter and sculptor who enjoyed close friendships and professional collaborations with prominent cultural figures, but has been unjustly neglected for many years. He is currently enjoying a strong resurgence of interest, with new publications and a major donation to the Musée d’Orsay resulting in an exhibition that received 107,000 visitors in Paris, at the time of writing (November 2020) is scheduled to be on display at the Musée de la Piscine in Roubaix from the end of France's second national lockdown until February 2021.
Chauveau was born in Lyon, but spent most of his life in Paris, where his father, the veterinary researcher Auguste Chauveau, secured a prestigious academic post at the Muséum national d’histoire
