Selina Hossain is one of the leading contemporary South Asian authors from Bangladesh, known for her prolific writing in Bangla. She is also a keen advocate of women’s advancement, with gender and women’s empowerment in Bangladesh being her core concerns. Her involvement with women’s issues in the last two decades has given her profound insights, which in turn have seeped into her creative writing.

Hossain was born on June 14, 1947 in Rajshahi. She spent her early childhood mostly in the Bogra district, amidst idyllic settings in their small house in a village on the banks of the Karotoa river. This experience must have made a mark on her literary imagination, because several of her prominent novels and stories are set in villages that have vivid descriptions of rural landscapes.
