Giovanni (Battista) Zuccala (Locatelli) was born in December of 1788, just a few months before the outbreak of the French Revolution in May of the following year. Son of landowner Carlo Ambrogio, of the historical Lombard-Venetian Zuccala Locatelli family (occasionally also recorded as Zuccala De’ Locatelli and Zuccala Locatelli Del Bona), and Elena Fracasso, Zuccala holds a somewhat tangential yet unique position in the Italian cultural and literary landscape.
