Heliodoro Baptista was born on 19 May 1944 in Gonhane (Inhassunge), Quelimane, capital of the province of Zambezia in Mozambique. He was the son of a European father and mother of European and African descent. He died on 1 May 2009 in Beira, where he lived for more than 50 years. He was married to the well-known photojournalist of the daily
Diário de Moçambique, Celeste Mac-Artur. He was a member of AEMO Associação dos Escritores Moçambicanos (Mozambican writers association).
From the age of 4 to 14 years he lived in Portugal, successively, in Póvoa de Varzim and Mealhada. He started his journalistic activity in the 1970’s writing for the newspaper Notícias da Beira, and he also coordinated the literary page “Artes e Letras Jovem” in which he began to publish chronicles and
