María Nsue Angüe was born in 1948 in Bidjabidjan, a town in the north-east corner of Rio Muni, the continental part of Equatorial Guinea. Or was she? Historians, literary scholars and journalists rarely agree on basic tenets of her biography, such as her birth date, ages at which she moved to Spain and Equatorial Guinea and back, when she studied journalism, where she practiced this profession (Ethiopia and Rwanda as well as Spain and Equatorial Guinea?), the activities she led during her governmental post in Equatorial Guinea, whether or not her husband was assassinated by Macías, and so on.
