Broadcaster, presenter, socialist, journalist, lecturer and, most commonly, writer, are many of the labels ascribed to Ferdinand Dennis. Dennis was born in Kingston, Jamaica on 18th March 1956, and moved to England with his siblings – one sister and two brothers – at the age of eight. Throughout his career, Dennis has experienced an ambivalent relationship with higher education and academia; he read sociology at the University of Leicester and studied for a Master’s degree at the University of London, then, at the age of twenty-four, worked in Ahmadu Bello University in northern Nigeria for two years.
