The Mathematician

Michèle Audin was born in Algiers in 1954 and is arguably one of the most important female mathematicians of our time, as well as an active author and historian. While she is an unlikely figure to appear in a “literary” encyclopedia, she nevertheless is one of the most important members of the OuLiPo group who, along with fellow mathematician and poet Jacques Roubaud, provides most of the mathematical theorization for their work. She is also the inventor and executor of some of the more explicitly mathematical or mathematizable constraints that the group has produced.
