Considered to be a national poet, a proactive editor, and one of the most eloquent disseminators of Quebec’s literature and culture, Gaston Miron was born on January 8, 1928 in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts in the region of the Laurentides, Quebec. All his life and work were torn between activism and the search for a unique style and language.

Miron grew up in his beloved region of the Laurentides, which at the time was considered a rough front of colonization going ever further north. If he did not directly experience the Great Depression of the 1930s, he was immersed in the poverty of his mother’s native village, a place that eventually became a reservoir of expressive images and metaphors.
