We know very little about Florus. It is generally assumed that his praenomen was Lucius, and his nomen, Annaeus, according to the majority of the manuscripts of the Epitome, but one of them has only “Julius Florus”, without any praenomen. Some scholars think it should be read “Lucius Annius”, “Annaeus” being the result of a confusion with the well-known family of Annaei, to which Seneca belonged.
