Arturo Pérez-Reverte Gutiérrez, whose early professional career was as a journalist for the daily newspaper

and a reporter on the state-owned Televisión Española (TVE), is one of the most widely known and read living writers of Spain. Frequently employing the stylistics of the historical novel and detective fiction, Pérez-Reverte’s works have been translated into thirty-four languages and sold more than fifteen million copies, adapted for television and the cinema, anthologized, and honored with some two dozen awards in half-a-dozen countries.
