Yolanda Oreamuno, born to a middle class family in San José, Costa Rica, was a novelist, short story writer, and essayist, who published frequently in

Repertorio Americano

and

Revista Mexicana de la Cultura.

Her life was short and tragic, yet the writer left her mark on the literary scene as one of the leading feminist writers in Latin America.

Oreamuno was stunningly beautiful, rebellious, a supporter of Marxism and one of the most innovative and talented writers in Costa Rica, yet she never received any acclaim from the critics in her country, perhaps on account of her controversial lifestyle and her political beliefs.
