Guido Gozzano was born on December 19, 1883, in Turin, Italy, to an upper-middle- class family. His father, Fausto, was an engineer, and his mother, Diodata, was the daughter of Senator Massimo Mautino, a patriot who had supported Giuseppe Mazzini and Massimo D’Azeglio during the process of Italian unification.
