German author Cornelia Funke was born in Dorsten, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, on December 10, 1958. Through her extensive literary output, especially in the field of fantasy novels, Funke has gained an international reputation. Her books have been translated into 37 languages to date. TIME Magazine rated her the most influential German citizen alive and one of the 100 most influential people on the planet in 2005.
