Giuseppe Parini was born to Francesco Maria and Angela Maria Carpani in Bosisio (province of Lecco, in the region of Lombardy) in 1729. Due to the modest social and economic background of his family, he was sent to live with his aunt Anna Maria Parina (his father’s sister) when he was nine years old. When she died three years later, she left Giuseppe a very small annuity with certain stipulations; he was required to have a mass performed for her every day, with the assumption that he would become a priest. With his inheritance the young Parini was able to attend a Catholic school, run by Barnabite monks, where he remained until 1752.
