Alongside such writers as Sefi Atta, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Chris Abani, and Helen Oyeyemi, Helon Habila is one of the most exciting, creative, and accomplished literary voices emerging out of a country that has brought forth such internationally acclaimed authors as Chinua Achebe, Christopher Okigbo, Wole Soyinka, Flora Nwapa, Cyprian Ekwensi, and Ben Okri.

Helon Habila Ngalabak was born in Kaltungo, Gombe State, Nigeria, in 1967. His father’s appointments for the Ministry of Works took the entire family, including seven siblings, to different towns across northeastern Nigeria. Helon Habila has always been an avid reader who enjoyed exploring fictional lives and times that took him beyond the world of his childhood:
