Tim Parks is a novelist, short story writer, reviewer, literary critic, essayist, travel writer, translator, and university teacher. He epitomises the twenty-first century man of letters, writing and working in a variety of genres including books, magazines, newspapers, radio and television. Since the 1980s he has been establishing himself as writer of the first rank, to the point where Joseph Brodsky, according to the jackets of Parks’s own books, described him as “Frankly, the best British author writing today”. Parks was born in England and now lives and works in Italy, but he is by no means a writer in exile.
