Born in Lebanon in 1948, Elias Khoury is an internationally acclaimed novelist, writer, and cultural figure. He authored several journalistic, political, and literary-critical pieces throughout his career, in addition to plays. He is the author of fourteen novels, most of which have been translated to English, French, and Hebrew, among many other languages. Khoury is currently editor-in-chief of the Majallat al Dirasat al Filastiniyya (Journal of Palestine Studies) in Beirut, Lebanon. He served as editor of many cultural and literary journals throughout his lifetime, including Shu’un Filastin (Palestinian Affairs), from 1975-79, in collaboration with the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish; Al Karmel, from 1981-82; As-Safir, from 1983-90; and al Mulhaq, the weekly cultural supplement of the Lebanese daily newspaper, Annahar, from 1993-2009.
