David Dabydeen is a poet, novelist and author of non-fictional works. He was born in Berbice, Guyana, and attended schools in New Amsterdam and Georgetown before, in 1969, joining his father and elder sister in England (his younger sister joined them soon after). He read English at Cambridge University and was awarded his doctorate from University College London. Dabydeen spent three years as a post-doctoral Fellow at Oxford University, has been an ambassador for Guyana, and is currently Director of the Centre for Caribbean Studies and Professor at the Centre for British Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Warwick.
His collections of poetry include Slave Song (1984), Coolie Odyssey (1988) and Turner (1994), and novels span from the twentieth-century Britain of The Intended
