. The collection is dedicated, for the sake of long-standing friendship, to Carlos Tracey Chester, a churchman from Pound's Philadelphia childhood. Chester, also the editor of that city's

, subsequently published Pound's account of his1906 visit to Spain in the magazine, then a poem in 1908, so there was an element of gratitude in the dedication.

As one might expect for a collection that recycles so much earlier material, Exultations is still characterized by archaic diction and
