American inventor and scientist Thomas Alva Edison (11th February, 1847 - 18th October, 1931) filed an initial claim for a patent for the Kinetoscope in 1889. The Kinetoscope, a motion picture device, was eventually realized by Edison's employee William Kennedy Laurie Dickson (3rd August 1860 - 28th September 1935) and his team, and he demonstrated it in public on the 20th of May, 1891.
