The World Trade Center, based near the shore of the Hudson River, was constructed as a central facility for business and international trade. The two buildings that made up the World Trade Center were designed by Minoru Yamasaki and each reached 110 stories. World Trade Center One (1368 feet) opened in 1972 and World Trade Center Two (1362 feet) opened in 1973
